Christopher Scott, Executive Director
Christopher Scott proudly serves as the Executive Director of SUN Scholars Inc., a nationally recognized community agency he developed to transform the post-secondary educational and career trajectories of foster and adopted youth aged 18 to 24. Under his leadership, SUN has built a graduation rate 10x the national average, and SUN’s annual budget has grown from its humble beginnings of just $2,000 to an annual operating budget of over $300,000. Scott was motivated to build SUN after having spent the majority of his childhood in the Connecticut foster care and child welfare system.
Academically, Scott holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Hartford, a Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) in Government Extension Studies from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Journalism with a minor in Linguistics from Central Connecticut State University.
Scott's extensive leadership and service commitments include serving on the selection committee for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute's Foster Youth Internship Program from 2020 - present, and as a Non-profit Committee Liaison for ITF-USA, where he supports fundraising and implements improved accounting processes. In 2019, Scott proudly served as an FYI intern with Senator Amy Klobuchar and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute to publish and present a child welfare report centering on higher education to the United States Congress and Whitehouse. Scott has extensive experience in the classroom, having taught elementary school, as well as serving as an adjuct professor of community engagement at Central Connecticut State University.
In 2023, Scott was selected for the Annie E. Casey Foundation's Exploring Equitable Results Cohort, focusing on data-driven and equity-centered practices in child welfare. Furthermore, he served as a taskforce member on the Co-Design Team on Ending the Need for Group Home Placements and was appointed by Governor Ned Lamont to the DCF State Advisory Council from 2019-2023.
Scott holds several recognitions, awards and honors. In 2022, Scott was recognized as one of CT Magazines “40 under 40” honorees, was one of two individuals recognized as CCSU’s Inspiring Graduates in 2017, is an AmeriCorps Alumni, and was a 2023 Re-envisioning Foster Care (REFCA) Champion honoree.
